Go Travel Direct ist bankrott

Ever wondered what it takes to behave like a mean Parisian?

Sorry no pictures yet. I am still recuperating. Nothing beats the Newfoundland fresh and salty air to get rid of a sinus infection. In fact, since moving to Newfoundland almost six years ago I have not had one sinusitis, whereas in population dense areas away from the ocean I have had my fair share quite regularly.

On to the "mean Parisian" bit. Honestly, I don't find Parisians any meaner than other people, but if you do meet a mean person here, the specific meanness may be defined as a typical Parisian arrogance. But again, I hardly ever meet people of that sort. Well, maybe that waiter at "La Cave de Bourgogne", but he was clearly acting ...

Anyways, if anyone reading this blog is planning to come to Paris and wants to enjoy a show in English, I have something to recommend to you. It was an odd coincidence that a very old acquaintance of ours, whom we first met in Munich and again in Berkeley is the director of a one man show in Paris. How to become Parisian in one hour shows in a tiny theatre called Théatre de la Main d'Or in a tiny side street of the Rue du Faubourg St. Antoine, the Impasse de la Main d'Or. Played and written by Olivier Giraud the show is exhilaratingly funny as it plays with all kinds of national clichées.

Cold

No, not outside, but me. I caught the worst cold in six years, my sinuses are giving me their best and instead of spending a nice visit with my folks near the Black Forest I am spending my time in bed under a mountain of blankets, drinking liters of herbal tea and taking the medication my "private" physician prescribed plus some other plant based stuff I got at the pharmacy yesterday.

It snowed today, something like 10 cm I believe and the street and garden look quite pretty. I am not venturing outside today though. Still feel a bit weak. Hope to be able to take some pictures tomorrow.

Busy, busy

Well, sorry for the long break. I have been busy with preparations for our next stay in Strasbourg as well as for possibly big changes in September.

On January 6th the visit of the three magi to the newborn Jesus is celebrated all over the world with different traditions. In France it is celebrated with the Galette des Rois. This year the "Association des Femmes Canadiennes à Paris" was invited to the residence of the Canadian Ambassador into the wonderful Hôtel particulier: Hôtel de Rigny on the Rue du Faubourg St.Honoré.

We had a fantastic speaker, Madeleine Gobeil-Noel, who talked about her friendship with Simone de Beauvoir and of the still valid message of Beauvoirs book "Le deuxième sexe".
